Leadership

Serving the church with prayer and care

The leadership of First Baptist Sonoma exists to serve the congregation by teaching the Word, guarding sound doctrine, praying for the church, and caring for the body of Christ.

If you have questions about the church or would like to speak with a leader, we would be glad to hear from you.

Pastoral Leadership

Meet our pastor

John Smith serves as pastor at First Baptist Sonoma.

John Smith came to First Baptist Sonoma in September 2026 with a desire to help the church remain deeply rooted in the Scriptures, clear in the gospel, and warm in its love for one another. His ministry emphasizes ordinary faithfulness: preaching the Word, praying for the people of God, and shepherding the congregation with patience and care.

Before coming to Sonoma, John spent several years serving in church ministry through preaching, teaching, and discipleship. He has a particular burden to help believers grow in confidence in God’s Word and to make the church a place where both longtime Christians and honest seekers can hear the truth of Christ clearly.

John and his wife are raising five children, and their family is grateful to be part of life in Sonoma. They enjoy opening their home, sharing meals, getting to know families in the church, and building a ministry that feels steady, personal, and deeply connected to the life of the congregation.

How We Serve

Leadership is for the good of the church

Church leadership is not about visibility or status. It is about humble service, faithful teaching, and helping the church grow in maturity in Christ.

Teaching the Word

Leaders are called to teach the Scriptures clearly so the church can be grounded in truth and strengthened in faith.

Prayer and care

The church is served through prayer, pastoral care, counsel, and steady attention to the spiritual good of the congregation.

Sound doctrine and order

Leadership also includes guarding the life of the church so that worship, fellowship, and ministry remain faithful to Christ and His Word.
